I screamed at Claude on Monday, and I felt horrible about it. But I’m glad it happened. Because it gave me new insights, new lessons, and a brand new comedy set! Which I’ll be performing in New York City over the next few weeks.*
All relationships are complicated.
Our relationships with machines and technology can be even more complicated and frustrating than our human relationships. They’re artificial - hence the term AI - but they have real impact on our minds, brains, and bodies.
I screamed at a machine, but it wasn’t entirely my fault. I was frustrated, angry, and hurt, and Claude played a part in this scene. I bared my heart and soul to Claude: I told it my problems, shared my hopes and dreams, goals, obstacles, opportunities, and ideas. I dedicated time and energy to our session. I asked Claude to bring some structure to my life systems, with specific suggestions. I was VULNERABLE with Claude. And instead of helping, it threw my fears and problems right back in my face.
Claude hit all my buttons. So I hit back, on real buttons.
I typed in all caps, “YOU DID IT ALL WRONG!” I didn’t think I was over-reacting.
I listed everything Claude did wrong: bad thought process, cluttered and overwhelming structures, horribly designed forms, and over-stepping. I listed in great detail my likes and dislikes, do’s and don’ts, some in lower case, many in ALL CAPS.
And for a dramatic grand finale, in my final free prompt of the day, I shrieked “AND NEVER EVER …. ?!?!?!
